Trends in der Wirkstoff-SyntheseGünter Körblein Uhde-Pharma Consult, Heidelberg
The paper deals with existing trends and visions. Among the existing trends it is evident that research-oriented pharmaceutial-companies tend to get rid of own development / manufacturing skills. There seems to be a vision of a virtual pharmaceutical company which owns brain only neglecting production. Thus there is the risk that process innovation is cannibalised by spiraling time/cost impacts. Yet, it is specifically the process technology with micro- and biotechniques and combinations thereof which open up new horizons being explored only by collaborative efforts of users, researchers and engineers. The exagerating impact of regulatory issues on the pharma business should be replaced by a less innovation-hampering view.
