Formulation and Evaluation of Carbamazepine Fast Disintegrating Tablets Tansel Comoglu Correspondence: Dr. Tansel Comoglu, Ankara University, Faculty of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmaceutical Technology, 06100 Tandogan-Ankara, Turkey, e-mail: comoglu@pharmacy.ankara.edu.tr The aim of the following study was to prepare fast disintegrating tablets (FDTs) of carbamazepine (CBZ) with sufficient integrity as well as a pleasant taste, using two different superdisintegrants, Ludiflash (based on mannitol, polyvinyl acetate and crospovidone) and Ac-Di-Sol (croscarmellose sodium, cross-linked sodium carboxylmethylcellulose), with two different compression pressure values. Tablets were made with direct compression method. Tablet properties such as porosity, tensile strength and disintegration time were determined. CBZ determinations were carried out using a validated spectrophotometric method for the analysis of drug. Furthermore, polymorphic structure of CBZ was also analyzed. Results showed that FDTs of CBZ with durable structure and desirable taste can be prepared using both superdisintegrants but tablets prepared with Ludiflash as a superdisintegrant had better physical properties.
