Abstract
The IntelliCap system comprises a swallowable, single-use, intelligent drug delivery device and ancillary equipment. Based on built-in diagnostic functionalities (pH and temperature sensors), the capsule is localized in real-time during its transit through the gastrointestinal tract. The capsule contains a reservoir from which a drug formulation is released according to a fully customizable, pre-programmed, and electronically controlled release profile over time. Major applications of the IntelliCap comprise the determination of regional drug absorption along the gut, rapid in vivo evaluation of pharmacokinetic parameters resulting from different drug release profiles, and gastrointestinal transit time and pH profiling. Furthermore, personalizable drug device combinations are currently developed using IntelliCap technology.
