Abstract
Tablets and capsules remain the most popular and accepted dosage forms, but use of orally dissolving films to deliver existing and potential new APIs (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient) also offer advantages, including patient convenience and lifecycle extensions. Final packaging of the individual film provides safe use and protecting until the point of use with respect to the dissolvable polymer matrix behaviors. Typically packaging elements like humidity, choice of packaging material, packaging design and appropriate opening features combined with intuitive handling are key elements to consider. The following article outlines the dosage form’s basic principles, advantages and highlights typical process demands on conversion and packaging.
