Bestimmung der Widerstandsfähigkeit von Granulaten mittels Laserbeugung Nicole Müller und Felix Ecker Hochschule Fulda, Fachbereich Lebensmitteltechnologie, Pharmazeutische Technologie, Fulda Korrespondenz: Prof. Dr. Felix Ecker, Hochschule Fulda, FB LT, Marquardstr. 35, 36039 Fulda (Germany), e-mail: felix.ecker@lt.hs-fulda.de Determining Granule Breaking Strength by Laser Diffraction Method The mechanical stability of different granules is quantified by friability and breaking strength test methods. In the first part of this work, methods for friability testing known from literature (Friabilator and oscillating apparatus according to European Pharmacopoeia) are compared with a newly developed attrition test, which is based on laser diffraction. The friability data gained by the different methods are correlated. This shows the suitability of the evaluated test method via laser diffractometry to quantify granules’ attrition. The time-saving and easy implementation of this new method is an important advantage, making it perfect for in-process controls. In addition, there is a better differentiation of batches compared to the other tested methods. In the second part, results of a granule breaking strength test are correlated with the friability data of the laser diffraction method. The good correlation of these two methods shows that the attrition test using laser diffraction can be applied instead of the time-consuming granule breaking strength test.
