Biopharmazeutische Charakterisierung halbfester Dermatika Systeme zur Modellierung von Liberation und Penetration Hagen Trommer Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg, Halle Korrespondenz: Dr. Hagen Trommer, Doktorberg 36, 21029 Hamburg, Germany, e-mail: trommer@pharmazie.uni-halle.de Biopharmaceutical Characterization of Semisolid Dermatological Preparations / Drug release and drug penetration model systems The effectiveness of dermal drug therapy by semisolid formulations in the first instance depends on the concentration of the drug attained at the site of action. This is true for both dermal and transdermal drug therapy. Thereby, the release of the drug from the excipient as the precondition of its effectiveness is of great importance. Another relevant parameter is the drug penetration into the skin. There exist several methods and models to obtain comparative data on the release of drugs from semisolid formulations and on the subsequent drug penetration. This article introduces options for the biopharmaceutical characterization of semisolid formulations by use of drug release and drug penetration model systems. The focus is on current developments in this area of research.
