Regulatory requirements strongly influence the planning process for these production plants where biology and process engineering interact. On the basis of regulatory and process requirements the layout of the plant needs to be developed. The transformation of the plant in a computer simulation allows for identification of bottlenecks. Plant simulation is an important tool for efficient and successful process engineering of biopharmaceutical production plants.
