A new system for continuous wet granulation

Modern actives often show hydrophobic properties with a reduced tabletability. In such cases wet granulation is the most promising production step. Aqueous wet granulation however may be difficult, due to the poor wetability of the actives. Normally intensive mixers are used for those granulations, principally producing granules with a relative low porosity. Altogether, those formulations mostly exhibit poor tableting properties, resulting in e reduced tablet crushing strength and prolonged tablet disintegration.
The results presented show that the new continuous granulation system leads to a noticeable improved tabletability by increasing granule porosity through gas injection. Additionally granulation can be carried out with small amounts of hydrophilic binders, due to the high shearing forces.
