Abstract
Production of granules in a Single-Pot – using the example of the application of effervescent tablets
Problem-free tableting with high throughput demands free flowing materials entering the press. Hence, bad flowing powder materials must be transformed into good flowing granules. In large majority they are produced in a wet granulation including the addition of liquid and binder and a subsequent drying. For this combined process the granulator can be equipped in such a way that also drying can take place in it – the so called Single-Pot-Process in a mixer/dryer. Not all products allow this kind of processing. The granules must develop such a good stability within the shortest time in the drying process, so that they can survive structurewise and sizewise the mechanical friction forces of a slowly running mixer during the ongoing process until they reach final set point moisture. A process sequence for a single-pot granulation is intended to be demonstrated using the example of granules for effervescent tablets. Such processes are being used in production for decades. In the case of certain products and processes some of them are protected by patents.
