Abstract
Handling the ongoing volume of text increase in package leaflets
The continuous increase in the volume of text used in package leaflets is a persistent topic for the pharmaceutical industry which is challenged by the need, on the one hand, to furnish patient-friendly leaflets, while, on the other hand, to limit the effort required to solve this problem. Although guidelines, such as the readability guideline, offer assistance, they do carry significant weaknesses, such as recommendations relating to the paper quality and format. Despite all patient orientation, these guidelines neglect the industry’s needs to act in a cost-conscious manner.
There is variety of resource-saving solutions that additionally guarantee a good standard of legibility for package leaflets, such as text compression and targeted paper selection. Of course, in order to make effective decisions, these solutions must be based on a solid data basis and include all company divisions concerned.
