Planning and Execution of Automatic Loading and Unloading Systems for Freeze-dryers

Automatic loading and unloading systems for freeze-dryers are widely used in integrated machine lines for the manufacture of sterile lyophilised pharmaceuticals filled in vials. They have replaced the former corresponding manual operations. Within the last few years many different automatic systems have been developed making full knowledge and appropriate evaluation relatively difficult for a potential user. The selection of a system is dependent on many aspects such as, production programme, product environmental requirements, process times and possible work times. Technical elements, variants and their characteristics are described and typical system examples are p resented. Points to be considered in the planning, design and evaluation of such systems are considerd on the basis of the author‘s experience.
